Elixir and OTP: Building Concurrent Systems

Elixir is gaining massive interest in the tech field, but the real thing that make this system do what it does is the BEAM virtual machine. Further the BEAM VM's ability to do mass concurrency (we are talking hundreds of thousands (if not millions) concurrent tasks) sets it a part form many language/platform contenders. Many people tend to struggle with some questions around BEAM as they learn Elixir and start to want to take advantage of the BEAM runtime for concurrency. Here we will explore some properties that we get from how the BEAM VM does concurrency. Further, we will look how to think and architect programs in the concurrent world of BEAM. Hopefully, this will be a good high level overview of the world of BEAM and Elixir so that people can take their Elixir projects and learning to the next level!
